College grads secure jobs.
According to Career Services' survey data, College of Business Administration graduates are
a sought-after group. In the Fall 2002/Spring 2003 period, nearly 10 percent of working students with B.B.A.s
were in jobs that earned them $50,000 or more, with an additional 15 percent of graduates earning in the
$40,000-$50,000 range. Nearly 45 percent of Master's degree holders earned $50,000 or more, and nearly 25
percent were in the $40,000 to $50,000 range. Graduates from the College captured positions in accounting,
finance, international business, management, marketing, MIS, and human resources across every imaginable
industry and in government.
Being involved in student organizations helps in that search of the next or first
career-focused position. In 2002/2003, for example, more than fifty graduates landed marketing jobs at
companies from General Motors to Sandals Beach Resorts to Estefan Enterprises to Merrill Lynch. The FIU
Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) is one organization that benefits those seeking
a career in marketing. Simply being a member of the organization can be helpful since recruiters look for
well-rounded students.
"If students have participated in activities, it also shows prospective employers that
they can manage their time-combining a school schedule, activities, and often a part- or full-time job,"
said Tim Dugan, the faculty advisor for the group.
