CONSULTANT GETS EXPERTISE THROUGH ALPHA KAPPA PSI.

"I learned skills to help me get a job, such as how to interview and improve my resume," Smith said. "I also learned skills I'll need in the professional world, including parliamentary procedures and how to deal with many kinds of people. And I participated in community service, such as tutoring and Relay for Life."

Smith took a crucial step toward achieving her professional goal when she joined other AKPsi members as volunteer guides at the Career Fair-an excellent venue in which to meet many members of the business community. She focused her efforts on Deloitte recruiters, who reviewed her resume and explained the requirements for most positions.

"Using the skills I learned through my work experience and AKPsi, I made it through the initial interview on campus, which was followed by an off-campus interview with additional staff members," she said. "Two weeks later, I was offered a position as Control Assurance Consultant for the Enterprise Risk Services division in Miami."

She looks forward to her new role at Deloitte and to staying in touch with FIU students.

"There are lots of FIU alums at the downtown office and the people there know and respect the University," she said.
