Overview

Effective interpersonal communication and the ability to build rapport are vital to your professional and personal success. Everyone can benefit from improving their interpersonal skills, especially in the modern business setting with its emphasis on positive employee and customer relations.

Since communication encompasses more than words, FIU’s Managing Interpersonal Communications program coaches you in the subtler messages you send through your tone of voice, facial expressions, posture, gestures, eye contact, and attention to others. Time spent working on your interpersonal skill set will pay huge dividends.

Highlights

We all face professional and personal situations that challenge our communications abilities such as speaking in public or dealing with conflict. This course provides an opportunity for you to look at and get feedback on your communication style including a clearer understanding of the strengths and talents you already possess and the areas that need work.

Through presentations, interactive exercises, and individual feedback, you’ll acquire information and insights that will improve your ability to communicate and strengthen your image.

This unique learning environment offers you a chance to get expert feedback and coaching on how to improve your skills. Our teaching objective is to improve your ability to communicate by attuning you to the fine points of your presentation style.

In this program, you will learn:

  • how to convert challenging situations (presentations, meetings, etc.) into opportunities for personal achievement
  • how non-verbal communication contributes to what people think and feel about you
  • techniques for improving rapport through active listening
  • guidelines for handling communication breakdowns and difficult people
  • the differences between assertive, passive, and aggressive behaviors, and
  • how to increase information flow to enhance your productivity and performance.
