Legal guidelines

1. All interested College of Business students who are permanently authorized to work full-time in the United States should be considered as potential candidates for U.S. positions, regardless of their citizenship. However, if citizenship is required by your organization, clearly indicate this in the job posting and in any pre-recruiting publicity.

2. Employers are authorized to ask a student whether or not they are authorized to work in the U.S. for other than practical training purposes. If your organization requires candidates (interns or permanent) to hold U.S. work authorization on a permanent basis, students holding F-1 and/or other visas will not be considered for interview consideration.

3. Florida International University is committed to a policy against discrimination based on sex, race, color, religion, age, national origin, martial status, sexual orientation, arrest record or disability. It is not legal to ask questions that are designed to directly or indirectly elicit information about these areas that are not related to the candidate’s ability to perform the job. In addition, taking or requesting photographs as part of the application process is an unacceptable practice. The right of employers to take bona fide occupational qualifications into account is recognized. The Career Management Services office is only available to employers whose practices are consistent with this policy.

4. It is the responsibility of the employer to make sure all interviewers associated with their organization are made aware of these acceptable interview practices and work authorization issues.

Recruiting guidelines

Our office provides full career-development services to CBA business students and alumni, from self-assessment and advice on career goals to assistance with job search efforts during their program of study (internships/part-time) and upon completion of their program (permanent employment). Our office also works with our graduate business alumni. The office also works in conjunction with the university's Career Services office and shares the same database for student registrations, job postings, and on-campus interviews.

For any On-Campus Recruiting for either undergraduate or graduate business students contact us directly.

All information sessions scheduled on campus will be targeted to both/either CBA undergraduates or graduates. Please state whether or not your organization is interested in having international students attend. This information improves our efforts to increase attendance by students (and faculty) whom you may wish to meet.

We recommend that national companies consider interviewing all degree levels represented by our diverse population of candidates. A copy of our diversity profile for each of our graduate business degree programs is available upon request.

All internships for CBA students are processed through our office. The only exception is organizations seeking accounting majors. Please alert us if you are seeking undergraduate, graduate or alumni candidates so we can assist as needed.

All permanent and internship job notices for CBA students and alumni should be sent to our office.

We continue to encourage employers to attend the university-wide career fairs for undergraduates, graduates and alumni. A separate graduate business student/alumni career fair is held in the spring semester.

Contact us if you have any questions.
