Women Entrepreneurs in Latin America – MAN 4390 Section U03 Class 20813: Special Topics in Management
WST 4930 Section U05 Class 20784. Women are starting businesses at a faster rate than any other group, especially in Latin America, where they play a critical role in the economy. This course will look at a variety of socio-economic factors and their impact on women entrepreneurs in the region. Topics of discussion include: a) current trends and the role of women business owners in the region, b) general and entrepreneurial framework and local conditions that support or block their initiatives, c) challenges faced and strategies used (managerial style, networking, banking), d) empowerment through targeted technical assistance and information, e) availability of resources and opportunities (networks, associations, funding) in Latin America. Through direct communication with women business owners in the region, students will be able to gather the stories and concerns of real women engaged in a variety of businesses. Don’t pass up this opportunity to learn the facts and, as part of a final project to meet and interact with women business owners throughout Latin America. This course is being taught by Victoria Kenny, program coordinator, USAID Farmer-to-Farmer program.
Financial Software – FIN 4933. Prerequisite: FIN 4502 Security Analysis or permission of instructor. Limited capacity, as each student will have his/her own terminal with dual screens.
Course will be offered Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:40 p.m.

Course Objectives:
- Use computer software to solve financial problems
- Obtain certification in industry software to enhance employment prospects
- Describe and evaluate financial computer models
- Understand current business practices involving computer models
Students will be able to:
- Take and pass certification tests on Bloomberg and Reuters Systems
- Find data and evaluate results in many areas of finance that are found in Bloomberg and Reuters
- Employ Excel to solve advanced problems
- Use data sources to obtain financial data (WRDS, Datastream, etc.)
- Become familiar with TradeStation’s features
- Evaluate trading models with TradeStation
- Describe financial instrument characteristics and economic factors affecting them (Trading Game, Bloomberg, Reuters)
- Use option data and explain option sensitivity values
- Use financial software to help the analysis of financial problems
- Evaluate and obtain volatility forecasts from models
- Evaluate portfolio decisions based on computerized risk and return analysis
