Undergraduate Internship Information for Employers

The CBA Career Management Services Office at FIU prides itself on the diversity of students and faculty within our programs.  By giving our students flexibility in completing their bachelor’s program, our internship program must be as equally flexible.  The Career Management Services Office offers guidance in designing the internship position that works for your needs.

Benefits of hiring interns

Company internship programs are beneficial for everyone involved: the university, our students, and the employers who hire them.  Consider employing a business student to assist you with a project that requires an analytical mind and business savvy.  Your company can tap into tomorrow’s workforce today by building relationships with some of the brightest, most talented students before they graduate.

Characteristics of an Internship:

  • Generally a one-time experience, however, an employer may extend the internship offer for a longer period of time.
  • May be part-time or full-time.
  • Promote academic, career and personal development.
  • Internships for academic credit are in line with the university’s academic calendar, beginning in August, January, and May. Students must have ample time prior to the beginning of each semester to register for the required internship course.
Note:  Internships for Marketing and Accounting students must be paid in order for students to receive academic credit.
  • Internships where students are not receiving academic credit (for experience only) may begin and end at anytime throughout the year.

How to Recruit an Undergraduate Intern:

  • Register with CBA Career Link and post your internship position.
Note: The quality of students attracted to your listed positions sometimes depends upon the quality of your announcement.
  • Once you have selected candidates, you may contact them for interviews on an individual basis or establish a schedule for interviewing on-campus by contacting the CMS Office.  You may also want to consider foreign national students as you do not have to sponsor these students when they are receiving academic credit as a part of their degree program.
  • Upon hiring an intern from the College of Business Administration, please visit http://careers.fiu.edu to access CBA CAREER LINK. Click on the hyperlink CBA CAREER LINK to report those students/alumni that accepted your job/internship placements.

On the top of the homepage within CBA CAREER LINK you will see a tab called PLACEMENTS.  Click on the PLACEMENTS tab and you will have a button to select named ADD NEW.  Click here to input the name of each candidate that accepted an offer with your organization.  The only necessary information is the name and start date.
