Our 18-month Master of Accounting (MACC) Mexico program will take you to the next level in your professional career. Offered in partnership with the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) in Mexico City (DF), Mexico, our Master of Accounting courses are taught by faculty experts, the caliber of which only one of the largest accounting schools in the United States can offer. Our graduate accounting program attracts highly motivated students who already are working as CPA’s, accountants and consultants, as well as those in related professions.

The MACC Mexico Program is designed for individuals who hold an accounting business degree or equivalent.

Student Learning Outcomes

Calendar

The FIU College of Business Administration’s School of Accounting’s Master of Accounting program requires 30 credit-hours of course work (6 credits per semester for 5 semesters).

Admission Requirements

Our Master of Accounting Mexico program has been tailored for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in accounting, or equivalent, from a regionally- accredited college or university.
To be eligible for admission to a Master’s degree in the School of Accounting in the Chapman Graduate School, students must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Have a minimum upper division grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 out of 4.0;
  • Show high promise of success in graduate studies as determined by the faculty based upon a minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score or 1000 (combination of verbal and quantitative) on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
  • The GMAT requirement will be waived if the student has a
    • graduate degree, from an accredited university with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 OR
    • passed four parts of US CPA exam OR
    • obtained from an AACSB accredited university a GPA of at least 3.25 in their upper-level undergraduate coursework AND a 3.0 GPA in classes equivalent to Intermediate Financial Accounting I, Financial Accounting II, Management Accounting and Income Tax Accounting OR
    • admitted to the 18-credit Certificate of Accounting program and obtain a 3.25 GPA in the first 12 credits of that program. Requirements to enter the Certificate program include: (a) 2.75 upper division GPA, (b) minimum 4 years professional work experience and (c) obtaining a minimum score in the TOEFL exam (see below).
  • Graduate student applicants whose studies were completed outside of the US must demonstrate proficiency of the English language by presenting a minimum score of 80 on the iBT TOEFL (equivalent to 550 on the paper-based version) or 6.5 overall on the International English Language Testing System (IETLS).   • Be in good standing with all previously-attended colleges and universities.

Admissions at the graduate level are competitive and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

To Apply:

 
  1. Applicants should visit http://gradschool.fiu.edu/admissions.html to complete the online application. Please select Master’s from the degree level drop-down menu and Accounting from the degree major drop down menu listing all FIU graduate programs in the online admission form.
  2. Please be sure to submit the graduate application for admission, along with nonrefundable application fee of $30.00 in US dollars.
  3. Submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities.  Transcripts must be sent directly to the ITAM by all formerly attended institutions in a sealed university envelope.  If official transcripts are not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be requested from the previously attended institutions for translation by an official translation agency.  The official translation as well as the requested official copy of the transcript must be submitted in a sealed university envelope. 
  4. Submit official proof of degree: a copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcript.
  5. Submit official GMAT.  Student must achieve a minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or 1000 (combined of verbal and quantative) on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score and a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in upper-level undergraduate coursework. FIU’s university code is 5206.
  6. Submit official TOEFL score. If applicant is an international student whose native language is not English, he or she also must have achieved a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based TOEFL or 213 on the computer-based TOEFL or an equivalent score on a comparable examination.  The official score must be sent directly by Education Testing Services (ETS.)   7. Submit a current resume of professional experience.
  8. Submit (2) letters of recommendation.
  9. Submit a statement of purposes detailing your reasons for wanting to enter the program.

Q. Do all application materials have to be submitted by the deadline? 
A. Yes, all materials have to be turned in by the deadline.  Only those applicants who have submitted complete packets will be considered for acceptance.

Q. Where can I obtain an application form for the MACC? 
A. The application form is available under Application Process.

Q. Do I include my certified transcripts with the application? 
A. Florida International University requires that official transcripts be sent in directly by the college(s) or university(ies) you attend(ed).You cannot send in copies of these transcripts yourself.

If you attended a university outside the U.S. and the transcripts are not in English, they must be translated by a certified translator.  The translation and an official copy of the transcripts must be submitted.

Q. What kind of undergraduate degree must I have to qualify for this program? 
A. We require that you have an undergraduate degree in accounting or equivalent degree from an accredited university.  Prospective students without undergraduate accounting degrees may be required to complete a number of pre-requisite courses per the discretion of the Program Director.

Q. What are the required scores for the GMAT/GRE? 
A. GMAT: minimum score of 500 
     GRE:   minimum score of 1000 (combination of verbal and quantitative)

Q. For how many years are my test scores valid?                                               
A.  GMAT scores - 5 years

Q. Where, when, and at what time are classes held? 
A. Classes are held on Friday nights and Saturdays all day at the ITAM campus in Mexico City (DF), Mexico

Q. Are the courses held in a certain sequence? 
A. The Master of Accounting’s curriculum provides one desired sequence. This sequence may be changed at the discretion of the program’s administrators.  However, certain prerequisites will be built into any sequence. Course content is dependent on changing demands from the job market and always is subject to change.

Q. How many students are there in the classes? 
A. On average, we may have 20 to 25 students in each class.

Q. Is a thesis required in the program?
A. No, there is no required thesis.
