PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Dr. Hiller’s research has appeared in most of the top journals in the fields of both Management and Organizational Psychology, including: Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, The Leadership Quarterly, and Negotiation and Conflict Management Research. In 2003, a leadership project Dr. Hiller led received the Kenneth Clark Award for innovative leadership research, and he has worked on cutting-edge management projects with clients including Johnson & Johnson, United Airlines, Burger King Corporation, and The United States Marine Corps. He is an active mentor and widely-liked teacher at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and has assisted in the development and delivery of several executive workshops over the last two years as a Fellow of FIU’s Center for Leadership.

By engaging in applied projects and regularly working with managers and executives, he successfully bridges the “gap” between the science and practice of management issues. Dr. Hiller loves to travel and draws regularly from his experience living in 4 countries on 3 continents in 8 cities. He spent 4 months in South Africa in 1997, immediately after the first democratic elections following the Apartheid era.

His current research focuses on: the price (and benefits) of having CEOs with big egos, biases in perceptions of leadership potential, the effect of work-unit climate on organizational effectiveness, and defining future leadership research needs.
