PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Dr. Haar also serves as Associate Dean for International Programs and Faculty Director of the International Business Honors Program. A board member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, he is also a Fellow of the Columbia Program on International Investment at Columbia University.

Dr. Haar was formerly Director of the Inter-American Business and Labor Program at the North-South Center, University of Miami, and has held visiting appointments at Wharton, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, and the American Enterprise Institute. He was also a research associate at Columbia University and a Fulbright Scholar at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Brazil. Dr. Haar was Director of Washington Programs for the Council of the Americas, a New York-based business association of over 200 corporations comprising a majority of U.S. private investment in Latin America, and served as Special Assistant to two cabinet secretaries. He has written twelve books and published articles in the Journal of Business Research, Management International Review, Journal of World Business, International Trade and Finance Journal, International Marketing Review, Multinational Business Review, and Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions, and Money and consulted for firms such as Exxon, IBM, Microsoft, Heineken, Ford Motor Company, Royal Dutch Shell, Merrill Lynch, FMC, Young & Rubicam, Disney, and YPF oil company of Argentina. His recent books include Winning Strategies for the New Latin Markets (Prentice-Hall/Financial Times, 2003), Can Latin America Compete? and Small Firms, Global Markets: Competitive Challenges in the New Economy, published in 2008 by Palgrave/Macmillan (London, New York).
