Chris Changwha Chung, assistant professor, Department of Management and International Business, captured the “Gunnar Hedlund Best Dissertation Award” at the 33rd European International Business Academy (EIBA) conference, held December 13-15, 2007 in Catania, Italy. The award, which comes from the Institute of International Business, Stockholm School of Economics, included a medal, a certificate, and a cash gift. His dissertation, titled “The Evolution of International Joint Ventures: Multiple Waves of Structural Change, Performance, and Survival,” also won the “Barry M. Richman Best Dissertation Award” in the field of international business and management. He received the award at the 2007 Academy of Management meetings, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in August, 2007.

Joyce J. Elam, executive dean and James L. Knight Professor of Management Information Systems, College of Business Administration and Vice Provost FIU Online, received the Seventh Annual “ATHENA Award” for Miami-Dade County from the Coral Gables Community Foundation on September 21, 2007.

Xiaoquan Jiang, assistant professor, Department of Finance and Real Estate, was informed by Michael Jensen, chair, Social Science Research Network (SSRN), that his paper, “Corporate Bond Returns and Volatility,” has been listed on SSRN’s Top Ten downloaded list for FEN Blackwell Publishers Journals. The paper is forthcoming in The Financial Review, a premier journal.

Constantine “Gus” Kalogeras, professor, Department of Finance and Real Estate, received the Financial Executive International (FEI) Key for 25 years of service to FEI, which is the premier organization for chief financial officers worldwide. He was once president of the Connecticut Chapter of FEI, which had the most Fortune 500 members of all FEI chapters. He received the award at the FEI’s “Education Night” on October 19, 2007.

Krishnamurthy Surysekar has been appointed to the newly-established Morrison, Brown, Argiz, & Farra Professorship in Accounting for a period of three years, beginning with academic year 2007-08. His appointment to this professorship is in recognition of his outstanding performance and potential for both research and teaching in the field of accounting.
